We donated our daughter Jessica’s beautiful wedding gown to Brides Against Breast Cancer after she lost her battle to squamous cell tracheoesophageal cancer five months after her own fairy tale wedding. We spared no expense in their wedding, giving her the magical day of her dreams, because we knew what she’d been through in her previous seven-year battle, and because the outlook for her was tenuous.
Despite battling cancer, our Jessi played varsity sports, graduated from high school, got through three years of college near the top of her class, worked in her chosen field (wildlife biology) every summer, and met and married her true love, all while undergoing more than 45 surgical procedures to keep her breathing.
After losing her, we felt her fairy tale dress, which had served such a special role in her life, needed to serve a special role in someone else’s life.
